Update: Mission Accomplished

April 5, 2009 at 2:51 pm (Fun, Life) (, )

dress Ladies and gents, I have purchased a dress. I had been eyeing this dress for a long time, but never saw a reason to buy it because where the hell would I wear it? Not to mention that, at the time I discovered it, it was $60 and that seemed extreme to pay. I checked back on the site this morning and, lo and behold! It was on sale. Almost marked down 50%. Now that’s a deal.

The necklace was no longer in stock anywhere near me, so I’ll have to forgo that. I have a turquoise pendant I could wear, so it shouldn’t be an issue at all. JC Penney also had a free shipping deal if the order was over $49, so I took a look around potential accessories I may need (but probably don’t). I now also own a purse.

bagI think, over all, I win. It goes with the dress! I believe I still have shoes at home and, if not, my parents can bloody well pay for those because it’s not like I even want to be there for the wedding.

I feel so accomplished.

Help!

April 5, 2009 at 1:08 pm (Life) (, )

My older sister’s wedding is on May 24th. This makes it a summer wedding, which I have never attended before. All weddings I have been to before have been in autumn or winter. I realized that I do not own anything that would be appropriate to wear to a summer wedding. I put it off for a while, then went shopping with Carmen yesterday to pick out an outfit and suddenly, something in my head clicked and I freaked.

It’s such a First World problem, yet I know I would be shunned for the rest of my life if I “ruined” my sister’s wedding by not showing up in appropriate dress. I am currently eyeing this dress and thinking of combining it with this necklace. Yay? Nay?

Face Painting!

March 26, 2009 at 10:03 pm (Fun, Life) (, , , )

I’m easy and consider myself a good feminist, but there’s one thing I have to admit. Make-up amuses me to no end. It’s a way for me to draw on my face without people getting all weird about it. (Admittedly, I am not drawing penii on my face with lipstick, though MAYBE I should try that.) Since I have nothing else to blog about, I thought I might as well post my usual make-up routine. First, of course, I wash my face in the mornings – Neutrogena. While my face dries I insert my contacts so I don’t contaminate them with face cream or make-up, then I apply BiorĂ© lotion. Then!

foundation1. Foundation! I use Almay Truly Lasting Color in Ivory 01; it’s still a little darker than it should be for my skin, but it’s the best I’ve been able to find so far; I just thin it out with some water. It’s not tested on animals either, so therefore awesome. Keep in mind it’s not heavy-duty coverage, it’s just supposed to smooth out your complexion. It does that for me.

blush

2. Blush! CoverGirl Instant Cheek Bones Contouring Blush in Refined Rose. I’ve replaced the brush for something larger with this, the smaller brush was just not good for blending at all. I usually start out with the middle shade directly on the cheek bones, from my smile line out to my hair. Then I work the darkest shade underneath that for a shadow effect. The lightest color comes on last and I usually brush it over the other two shades so they blend a little better.

eyeshadow

3. Eye shadow! For this, I employ Almay’s Intense I-Color trio of greens. Except I leave the purple out on most days, opting instead to blend the lighter green with the darker green on my eyelid. Sometimes I will use turquoise eyeliner (NYC Eyeliner Duo), mostly I’m too lazy, though. Some days I will go with Revlon ColorStay 12 Hour Eye Shadow in 07 Spring Moss, blending the two medium shades on my eyelid, then softly smudging the darkest shade over my eyelashes and sweeping the lightest shade up to my brow bone.

pink mascara

4. Mascara! This is where I get tricksy. I have long lashes, but they’re extremely light due to my natural blondeness. Just using one mascara does not produce the desired look, but this is a matter of taste. I like doing the thick tranny lashes as I’ve heard them referred to. So, to achieve this, I will first use Rimmel Lash MAXXX (Extreme Black) for the first layer; the applicator resembles a comb, so it also separates the lashes from another and is ideal for getting the lower lashes. You know, the ones that end up sticking together and looking weird and spidery? Those. I hate it when they do that. Now my lashes will be dark, but still very thin and lonely-looking. So I add a top coat of Maybelline’s Define-A-Lash in Soft Black (water proof). This applicator has thing rubber brushes that actually evenly apply color.

jellypop gloss

5. Lips! Since I’m referring to my daily routine, I will confess I do not use lipstick on a regular basis. I would like to, but I am chicken because the colors I like wearing are the bold kind. I save those for special occasions. To the left you can see Wet N Wild’s Glassy Gloss Jelly Pops. I own the flavor Just Peachy; they’re a new discovery of mine, but I’m very pleased with the smell, flavor and look because they’re not overwhelming, but still awesome. Another favorite is Rimmel’s Twist & Shine Lip Polish with its awesome shade 070 Twist It, which is candy apple red.

Tada! (My apologies if the formatting remains weird. This is the fifth time I’ve edited it and WordPress keeps fucking up the format. I give up.)

Oh, The Humanity

March 3, 2009 at 5:29 pm (Life) (, , , , )

Unpleasant things I would prefer not to run across when I go out during the day:

  • yellow “camouflage” pants
  • pleather leggings with orange crop-tops
  • gangstas who pretty obviously dress to the right listening to a Backstreet Boys’ album at ear-splitting volumes
  • people who smell like mothballs
  • Uggs
  • people who don’t use deodorant
  • stained, stiff, unwashed jeans

It’s been that kind of day.

Etsy = Addictive

February 23, 2009 at 7:57 pm (Fun, Life) ()

I know many of you are already addicted to Etsy. I wasn’t entirely sure what all the hullaballoo was about, but I was shopping around for birthday gifts today and thought I might as well give it a shot. So I went and searched jewelry for my two sisters, one of whom just turned 30 on Feb 20th and the other will turn 16 on March 6th.

mushroomMiriam is a great fan of whimsical jewelry. I stumbled across these lovelies through a friend who linked me to the LJ community called Craftgrrl. The mastermind behind these mushrooms had just posted some of her new stuff that she would put up on Etsy.

Mushrooms have always been a bit of an inside joke within our family. We bought Miriam a pink floppy beret ages ago that she at first hated; she changed her mind after a while and started wearing it, and called it her Mushroom Hat. From then on, she and I sketched pictures of happy mushrooms frolicking in forests, meadows and doing other assorted weird things. Miriam, for some strange reason, considers mushrooms to be cute-looking.

turtles This is the second pair of earrings I purchased for Miriam. As stated above, she likes the whimsy and she also likes turtles. Chibi turtles seemed the right way to go. They’re currently sold out because the seller only had one pair in stock, but I’m sure she’ll get around to making some more. I expect this pair and the above will arrive sometime later this week, which means I can send them on.

Miriam will actually be getting a third present; Carmen found this voice recording picture frame while she was cleaning up. I’m planning on printing out some fun or meaningful pictures, maybe including a small drawing of sorts, and then sending it off to her. Miriam and I are pretty close to each other, if you couldn’t tell. Heh.

silver pendantLast but not least, we have the pendant I bought for Shana, my older sister. I had a hard time figuring out what kind of present I ought to get her. We’re not as close as we could be; this is mostly my fault. There is a brass version of this pendant but I’m not entirely sure she isn’t allergic to brass, so I went with the silver version instead. She’ll have to replace the chain because the one it comes with is absolutely hideous. I hope she won’t mind doing that.

This Etsy seller has a bunch of lovely jewelry in her store that I think everyone should check out. I’m sort of in love with a lot of her designs. Thankfully, though, I am a stingy bitch and consider buying anything for myself to be a waste of money. Etsy can only do me so much harm! Ha! Take that!

My mother sent me a package that arrived today. Inside, there was clothing. And dog hair. I’m still conflicted about whether or not the dog hair was intentional, but I thought it was pretty hilarious nonetheless.
